There is a great new magazine for parents in the NYC area. If you are local, you can pick up a copy at a number of stores which are listed on the OFFSPRiing website. Definitely check out the issue which features the Memory Threads water tower quilt. Here is a link directly to the online version of the Baby Issue
Growing a small business means always working to improve your online presence. I'd be so appreciative if you'd consider voting for Memory Threads on The Craft Show blog. Click on the link below, and thanks a million!
Just in time for summer! Here is the completed Camp Agawak t-shirt quilt. This design allowed for most of the writing and images on the t-shirts to remain intact, and I love the splash of yellow! The quilt captures the memories from 10 summers in the great outdoors, but will blend in perfectly with a sleek modern city apartment. I hope you love it, camper! I love this idea so much! 6 friends contributed clothing to make a baby quilt for their friend's new baby. Here is the story: My friend Celia teaches hula hoop classes. In case you didn't know, it's amazing exercise. She and 5 of her friends who also "hoop" put together a collection of garments from various hula hoop events along with other textiles that were meaningful to them. The result is a sweet and totally funky quilt for their friend's new baby. The back of the quilt even has a hula hoop shape made from bits of clothing. It was a blast to make this for them, and I wish the best for this new little gal. Summer is right around the corner!
It's the perfect time to transform camp t-shirts into a bunk bed worthy quilt. Below are just some of the shirts that will be included in a quilt for a former camper and counselor at Camp Agawak. It will capture the memories from 10 summers! Check back soon to see it completed... These three pillows were made using a grandmother's beloved nightgowns, sweatsuit, and handkerchiefs. Made for her daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter, the pillows will honor her memory for years to come. It was an honor for me to transform these everyday sentimental items into a beautiful daily reminder of the life their special person lived. Dresses, onesies, pajamas, and a baby robe are all part of this first year quilt. The front is made up of special clothing and memories from the little girl's first year including outfits from holidays and her first birthday. The back is composed of her newborn hospital blanket and gown along with certain identifying info like her first initial and birthplace. I love the ruffles and puffy flowers! These photos show the quilt pre-washed so it has that cozy old-fashioned crinkly look right away. Left over clothing was used to make fabric bunting as coordinating room decor. The NY chapter of the Moms Demand Action organization held it's first quilting bee over the weekend. Although not a member of the group, I was asked to participate and I'm so glad I did.
Moms Demand Action describes the project this way: The “Mother’s Dream Quilt Project” will be a collection of quilts created from fabric submissions from around the country. Each quilt will contain at least one block composed of meaningful fabric from a victim or survivor of gun violence such as a piece of clothing or a beloved blanket. This “survivor block” will be surrounded by submissions from supporters expressing their collective sadness over too many lives ended by gunfire. Since not everyone who participated this weekend knew how to use a sewing machine I helped out with the final step. Below are some examples of quilt blocks that I helped sew for other moms. If you are interested in submitting a block or learning more about this project click the link below: Moms Demand Action "Mother's Dream Quilt Project" Recently my son convinced me that it's time for a big boy clothes quilt. I guess he thinks the one with his baby clothes is so "five years ago." I love that he asked, so I indulged him and made a small keepsake of a few items that he selected. He even participated by showing off his goofy side in the photo shoot. Check out my feature today on RecycleArt!
