Dyllan's mom, Dina, sent me the most beautiful collection of baby and mama textiles including his "coming home outfit" and receiving blanket, and her "good luck dress" that she wore to doctor appointments, and the dress she wore to the hospital.
Dina asked me to make a quilted wall hanging and pillows that would add both meaning and style to Dyllan's nursery. She hopes that one day when he is older Dyllan will be able to take the pieces with him. I really enjoyed working on this project for a very sweet family, and I think that their modern keepsakes turned out so chic. I hope Dyllan and his parents get a ton of pleasure out of seeing them everyday. During the time when 2-5 year old boys obsess over various forms of transportation, boys growing up in NYC unanimously obsess over the subway system. Eli was no exception. He loved everything about "his" F train that took us all over, from grandma's house to Coney Island. This long and adorable phase inspired the F train quilt that still decorates his bed. BONUS: Without planning it, the colors worked nicely with his Spiderman sheets. The F train quilt is old but the photos are current so you can see that it is well loved and wrinkled up. The quilt was made using new fabric and recycled bed sheets (light blue plaid). The circles and "F" are appliqued and the door frame was stitched with embroidery floss. |
